The TBAT Innovation Challenge 2026, delivered by Dains in collaboration with Headline Sponsor Shakespeare Martineau and Platinum Sponsor Barclays Eagle Labs, is now open for applications, with a search underway for the UK’s most exciting innovators.
The Innovation Challenge presents a unique opportunity for businesses to elevate their growth, whether they are in the early stages of launching an idea or already developing cutting-edge technology. It supports ambitious entrepreneurs and innovative businesses in taking the next step by providing funding, support, and industry recognition.
What’s on offer?
At the heart of the competition is a major prize designed to help businesses grow and innovate.
The overall winner will receive a £50,000 cash prize to invest in R&D*, along with access to a share of a £100,000+ support package provided by TBAT Innovation’s partner network.
This support package is tailored to the specific needs of the business, so whether it’s legal advice, strategic support, or growth planning, the winners get exactly what will help them most, when they need it most. The challenge also recognises two outstanding runners-up, each of whom will receive £5,000 and access to the tailored support package.

Who should apply?
The Challenge is open to a wide range of innovators across the UK.
– Start-ups that are three years old or less, particularly those developing a technology-based product or service or working on innovative solutions.
– Aspiring entrepreneurs who are planning to launch a business.
– Established organisations that remain heavily involved in research and development or the introduction of new technology.
– Businesses must offer technology-based products or services that demonstrate innovation and the potential to make a meaningful real-world impact.

How to apply
The application form takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete and is designed to capture key information about the applicant’s business, proposition, or project. Supporting documentation must also be submitted in the form of a business plan or investor pitch deck, and no sensitive intellectual property should be included.
There are no interview stages as part of the application process and all entries will be assessed solely on the information provided within the application form on TBAT Innovation’s website.

What happens next?
Once applications close on 12th August, all entries will be reviewed, and the top 10 businesses will be shortlisted.
These finalists are invited to take part in the Finalist Showcase on 7th October 2026 in Warwickshire, where they pitch live to a panel of judges, investors, and members of the wider innovation network. The event provides an opportunity not only to compete for the top prize, but also to gain visibility, build connections, and present their business to a broader audience.
Ahead of the Finalist Showcase, the Top 10 finalists will receive a Pitch Training Session from Funding Hero.
At the Finalist Showcase, the overall winner of the competition and two runners-up will be announced, alongside a number of special award categories, including:
