News Alert:

Essentials in Health Economics

Tuesday 10th September 2024 - 13:00-15:00 - Zoom

To gain access to the NHS market, it is essential to identify and demonstrate the purpose and potential impact of any new health technology. Alongside evidence of the improvements in clinical outcomes, there is also the need to understand the financial impact for the NHS and other healthcare markets. So, when developing innovative medical technology, it is important to conduct health economic forecasts and analyses at an early stage in the product development cycle.

This two-hour course will introduce you to the basic concepts of Health Economics required for start-ups and small businesses. You will learn how to use them to demonstrate the value of your innovation to decision makers (whether that be purchasers, budget holders or investors).

Topics covered will include:

  • Basic principles of Health Economics
  • Types of Health Economic Evaluations and how they fit into the product development cycle
  • What data needs to be collected to build a health economic model?
  • Populating models: pilots and trials vs published literature

Anyone who is involved in developing new healthcare technologies and products, be it as an entrepreneur, clinician, academic, funder or commissioner, including professionals with an interest in/working in:

  • Sales and marketing
  • Business development
  • Product development
  • Research & development
